What you can write in a blog post

Posts on this blog are written in Markdown. This page lists everything the editor understands. Each part shows what you type, then how it comes out.

The post title is the page heading, so start a post's own headings at ##.

Headings

## Section heading

Paragraphs and line breaks

Leave a blank line between paragraphs. A single line break inside a paragraph is joined into one line. To force a break, end the line with two spaces.

First line, ended with two spaces··
Second line, same paragraph.

(The ·· stands for the two spaces.)

Bold, italic and strikethrough

*italic*, **bold**, ***bold italic*** and ~~strikethrough~~

innotech, with a hover title, https://web.innotech.ph/ and a reference link.

A bare address typed without the angle brackets stays plain text.

Images

Upload the picture in the editor's Images panel. It gives you a /news/media/... address to paste in:

![What the picture shows](/news/media/ABC123)

The text in the square brackets is read out by screen readers, so describe the picture. Images are resized and saved as WebP when you upload them.

Lists

- Bullet item
- Another one
    - Nested item (indent four spaces)

1. Numbered item
2. Next item

A numbered list keeps the number it starts with, so a list that begins at 3 counts 3, 4, 5.

Quotes

> A quote.

> > A quote inside a quote.

A quote.

A quote inside a quote.

Code

Wrap a short piece in backticks: `gateway_eui` gives gateway_eui.

For a block, put three backticks on the lines before and after it. A language name after the opening backticks is allowed, but code is shown in one colour, without syntax highlighting.

```python
print("hello")
```
print("hello")

Tables

Colons in the divider row set the alignment: left, centre or right.

| Region  | UDP port | Basic Station |
| :------ | :------: | ------------: |
| eu868   |   1713   |           yes |
| ism2400 |   1708   |            no |

ism2400 1708 no

A wide table scrolls sideways on a phone.

Footnotes

LoRaWAN runs on licence-free radio bands.[^1]

[^1]: Which bands depends on the country.

The footnote itself appears at the end of the post, with a link back.

Definition lists

Network server
: Decides what to do with each packet.

Abbreviations

Define an abbreviation once, anywhere in the post, and every use of it shows the full name on hover.

The FUOTA service updates devices over the air.

*[FUOTA]: Firmware Update Over The Air

The FUOTA service updates devices over the air.

Linking to a heading

Headings get no automatic anchor. Give one an id in curly braces, then link to it:

## Pricing {#pricing}

See [Pricing](#pricing).

This page's own Headings section has one.

Divider

Three dashes on a line of their own draw a line across the page:

HTML

Plain HTML tags work too, for the odd thing Markdown has no syntax for, such as H2O or x2:

H2O and x2

Showing a symbol as it is

Put a backslash before a character that Markdown would otherwise act on: \*not italic\* gives *not italic*.

Not supported

These work on some other sites but not here. They show up as plain text:

  • Coloured syntax highlighting in code blocks
  • Callout boxes such as > [!NOTE] (it becomes an ordinary quote)
  • Emoji codes such as :smile: (type the emoji itself instead)
  • ==highlighted text==
  • Maths such as $x^2$, and diagram code such as Mermaid
  • A table of contents, or anchors added to headings by themselves
